Back to Top Assessments against the HSE Management Standards for Work-Related StressWork-related stress is a major cause of occupational ill health and has adverse effects for both the individual (e.g. psychological, physical and behavioural difficulties) and the organisation (sickness absence, high staff turnover and poor performance).
The HSE states that under UK law, employers have a 'duty of care' to protect the health, safety and welfare of all employees while at work. They also have to assess the risks arising from hazards at work including work-related stress.
